LANGER Women's Leather Cross Body Bag

A custom-designed and hand-crafted women's leather cross body bag that is inspired by the human surface's topography.

The LANGER bag is a bold experimental work on the theme of human topography that is inspired by the research works of the Austrian anatomist - Dr. Karl Langer (1819-1887), whose discovery of tension lines on the surface of human skins in 1861 - the Langer's lines - were relevant to the development of surgical, plastic surgery and aesthetic techniques, As the lines are parallel to the natural orientation of collagen and muscle fibers in the skins, post-surgery stitches made along these lines also tend to leave less obvious scars.

The collection, manifested in notebook covers, bags and framed art pieces, traced the Langer's lines around the chest, shoulder, back, waist, hip, abdomen and limbs areas, using meticulously hand-cut, upcycled full-grained vegetable-tanned cowhide or buffalo leather pieces, to compose intimate yet surreal patterns for the leather items.

Beyond functions, the bag's topographic patterns morph into the initials of the carrier - an alternative expression of personalization and individualism.

3-oz, natural full-grained Italian vegetable-tanned, cowhide leather is used throughout the bag's full leather construction ensures decades of use without slackening or splitting. The bag is fully and meticulously handcrafted by experienced artisans.

Natural leather grain pattern, unique to each hide, can be seen on the cover and will acquire a beautiful natural satin lustre over time.
