Studio Arkademie NYONYA A6 Portrait Notebook Sleeve, Multicolour
Handcrafted leather notebook sleeve inspired by the unique South-Eastern Asian Peranakan culture which had developed from the interactions between Southern Chinese settlers around the Malay Peninsula and Indonesian Archipelago from the 15th to 17th century AD, the distinctive ornamental motifs - phoenix, peonies, butterfly, bats - and use of colours typically used on the 'Famille Rose' porcelain ( Fencai 粉彩 colours, popular during the 16th century Qing Dynasty ) are influenced by the auspicious symbols and palette that embody prosperity, wealth and happiness while representing the apex of craftsmanship from the Qing era.
4-oz SULLY goat leather from the legendary French tannery ALRAN is used for the construction of the sleeve. Every motif piece is hand-cut, meticulously appliqued and hand-stitched onto a leather base. Waxed threads are used to strengthen the seams and bind the leather components. The entire sleeve is saddle-stitched for extended durability - a traditional and time-honoured method in fine leathercrafting.
